Alfonso Fraile was born in Seville in 1930. He died in Madrid in 1988.
Education
Alfonso Fraile studied at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts, Madrid.
Fraile's work founded itself in abstraction, but developed its own satirical, caricaturist expressionist style by the 1970s, which in turn made way for the final period of his work; typified by his grotesque portraits.
Fraile is one of the most outstanding examples of Spanish Figuration.
Exhibitions & Collections
Fraile's works have been exhibited on numerous ocasions, in many different cities. The National Spanish Museum of Modern Art, Reina Sofía, held a retrospective exhibition of Fraile's work that lasted from October 1998 to January 1999.
Honors & Awards
One of the most outstanding of the many awards gained by Fraile was the Spanish National Prize For Painting; awarded to him at the beginning of the 1960s.
