alfred gockel Biography

ALFRED GOCKEL’s biography - short version - Alfred Gockel (1952) born near Münster, Germany. In his childhood he worked as a coalminer. Because of this he uses self-prepared tar in his acrylics.
He studied and teached at the Polytechnic Art University - Münster. Since 1983 until 2006 Alfred published his artworks as open editions and sold these internationally to art & design galleries. In 1990 he bought a silkscreen printer and started a collection of abstract, limited, hand-signed silkscreen prints till a maximum size 100x140cm.. During his travels he met Salvador Dali and Miro. Alfred is a great admirer of Chagall, Kandinsky and Picasso. From 1985 he presented his artworks at the Art Expo NY and many other international artfairs. Since 2003 Alfred gives art lectures and live painting performances for Park West Galleries 2008 he founded artgroup Quadriga is about etching, woodcut, linoleum and lithograph.
Alfred Gockel was involved in 'Ruhr Essen European Cultural Capital 2010 Manifestation with a huge sculpture of 4,5 m height. The sculpture is about 2 coalminers leaning forwards against each other thus sharing 3 legs expressing faith – strength – alliance. ADAC (German Car Assistance Company) in Germany ordered a sculpture for public domain ± 11x3x7 meters ± 36x10x23 feet, 8 angels carrying real sized yellow helicopter along highway junction of A1 -A2 on a hiil of 18 meters / 54 feet high; each day >220.000 vehicles pass. Last 3 years public domain sculptures are also installed in Werne, Münster and Selm.
