Annabella Gorlier Biography

About the artist….

An Inter cultural and Contemporary vision Born at Tampere, Finland, in 1978, from Finnish mother and French father, with Indian and Irish origins. My childhood took place in a small village located on the French Riviera’s countryside. Furthermore we established a strong bond with Pirkkala, in Finland, where we used to spend the summer holidays at our grandmother’s house with my sisters. After an Erasmus exchange at Grenade, the time spent in Spain is every time longer until 2002, when I decided to fix up at Purche, at Sierra Nevada’s mountains, in Andalusia.

La petite histoire Since my earlier childhood, I felt true fascination for drawing and creation more generally. Later, because of my father’s job, we had the chance of spending much time in several Museums of the region of Nice and at the Louvre Museum, in Paris. Because I was not sure about what I wanted to do at 17, I did not studied Art fields: I’m an autodidact. I decided to do what was “easy” in France; study at the University, with a grant and the hope of being able to go to South America. As I’m bilingual French-Finnish and thanks to a good dose of memory, I managed to go on: my notes were full of drawings and my relations with teachers sometimes ruled by “incomprehension”. Then was the experience of the Erasmus exchange: even if it was not South America, I almost will be able to speak Spanish: From Nice to the bus station of Grenade, with only my bullets full of dictionaries, I really thought I’ve reached Morocco. That stage of my life was as a whirl, in all senses! Throwing out many convictions and habits, I think I was able to feel more free and closer to my real I. At the end of the university exchange it was clear that I couldn’t go back to Nice! To resume in a few lines, I suppose I find the support and the necessary tranquillity to find out what I need. I finally understood what I always new: that my stability lives in creation, that my energy is complementary to the material I handle and that the expression form I manage do not need using words. This is a road I only started to explore and I feel like a student astonished by the discoveries experimented by the use of imagination. My case is a process under way: art is ruling me each time more and more, with force and power.
