Arge Kugelstein Biography

March 31, 1942 Graz, Austria

Dynamic Austrian painter who works with metallic/Illu-color and acrylic airbrush paint on poster board using exclusively hand-made templates and backgrounds. His most recent templates incorporate the styles of Wilhelm Busch, Heinrich Zille, Gothic Interior Architecture, city architecture, midieval woodcarvings, Russian Jugendstil, comic illustrations, Byzantine and Islamic Ornatmentation.

Kugelstein has experimented with a wide range of styles and subjects including constructive, pseudo-representational art with tiers of colour to define space, to stencils of portraits, torsos and nudes.  He has also experimented with backgrounds by using newspaper graphics, comics, and advertising.
