Acrylic

Acrylic paint was first designed in the 1940s but did not become popular until the 1960s. This paint is a synthetic resin (polymerises methacrylate) mixed with color to produce a thick, shiny paint. Acrylic paint is very versatile; while it can be used to produce many of the effects obtained with oil paint, it can also be mixed with water and painted in thin washes, easily mistakable for watercolor. Unlike watercolour however, once acrylic paint is dry, it is irreversible.
