Fauvism

Fauvism

This movement is distinguished by free, voluminous brushwork and bold colors. Subject matters were very simple or abstract.

The movement was short-lived, 1905-1907, led by Henrí Matisse and André Derain. Works emphasized painterly characteristics and values retained from Impressionism.
