Jean Michel Basquiat

(New York, 1960-1988)

American artist, and the best known figure of Graffitti art.

Self-trained artist, who came into limelight after his association with Andy Warhol. Now a legendary name, Basquiat was a street artist whose graffiti or spraycan art reflected urban themes. Basquiat died at the young age of 28 from a drug overdose. His brief life was the subject of a movie by Julian Schnabel, in 1996.
