Jasper Johns
(Georgia, 1930)
American painter, printmaker and sculptor, and a key exponent of the Minimal art and Pop art movements in America.
Jasper John´s work is widely recognized because of its depiction of commonplace objects, in a new light. His artworks depicting the American flag, with its bold brushworks or with three flags combined in one, have become some of the most well recognized recent artworks.
His first one-man exhibition was held Leo Castelli Gallery in New York, in 1958. His later works have been focused on autobiogrical themes and cross-hatching motifs. Some of his recent works have also included lithographs, published with Universal Limited Art Editions.
