Andy Warhol

(Pennsylvania 1928 – New York, 1987)

American painter, printmaker, film-maker, and writer; widely recognized as one of the most famous and controversial artists of the last century.

Trained at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, he initially gained recognition as one of the most successful commercial artists in New York, during the 1950s.

As an artist, he came into limelight with his paintings and screenprints of mass-produced images – advertisements and comic strips. Probably, the best known American Pop artist, his works depicting Campbell soups, Coca Cola bottles, celebrity icons, like Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, are some of the most recognized images of our time.

During his lifetime, he also collaborated with artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat, the Graffiti artist and LeRoi Neiman, the Playboy magazine illustrator.
