Pierre Alechinsky
(Brussels, 1927)

Belgian painter and printmaker, most well known for his role in the Cobra group and vigorous Abstract Expressionist style.

Trained at the École Supérieure d´Architecture et des Arts Décoratifs, became actively associated with the Cobra group of artists, before moving to Paris, in 1951, to study printmaking. His works are strongly influenced by Japanese calligraphy, as well as expressive abstraction. This Belgian artist is amongst the most recognized artists from his country and has gained significant recognition, internationally.

A major retrospective exhibit of his works was held at the Museum of Art, Carnegie Institute, in Pittsburgh, in 1977.
