Antunez, Nemesio

Nemesio Antunez
(Santiago de Chile, 1918- 1993)

Chilean painter and printmaker who also served as the director of the Contemporary Art Museum of Chile and the Museum of Fine Arts in Santiago.

His paintings are typically characterized by "large landscapes, simplified and geometrisized, populated by swarming crowds of tiny figures" ( Latin American Art of the 20th century ). His is also known for his mural, The Heart of the Andes, at the United Nations Building in New York.
