David Weeks Biography

David Weeks was born in Athens, Georgia. He graduated in 1990 with a BFA (bachelors in fine arts) in painting and sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design. He opened his studio in Brooklyn, New York in 1996 and began by designing series of retail and custom lighting fixtures call David Weeks Lighting.

David Weeks creates functional products by turning simple shapes into elegant forms. His products have a distinct modern aesthetic which have universal appeal. His products range from lighting, furniture, accessories, custom retail, and commercial installations. In all of his products he keeps a classical modern simplicity.

His work has appear in many magazines and has received awards such as the Editor?s award for Lighting at the ICFF in New York City inn 1999 for DWL. In 2000, he launched a furniture line and began a new product company, Butter. His lighting products have also won awards from Blueprint magazine and the Editors Choice award at the 2001 ICFF.
