Dirk Wynants Biography

Dirk Wynants was born in 1964 in Belgium. He studied interior and furniture design at the architecture institute Sint-Lucas in Belgium. He founded Extremis, in 1994, and began to produce outdoor furniture designs products.

The first product was the multifunctional Gargantua garden table that managed to launch the company into the international design scene.

His design vision has been to create products that are functional and improve any situation where people come together. He wants his products to be innovative, timeless, and have a reason for existence. His mission is to bring people together with furniture that fills their needs. Although Extremis has created less that twenty products, many of them have received numerous design awards. The InUmbra is a parasol for his Gargantua or Arthur table. Donuts is a lightweight seating-table made from an intertube that has a table built on it. Almost all of the furniture is lightweight, easy to move and assemble, and eye catching.

The Picnic is a good example of these qualities as it is made aluminium, looks like a piece of art, and can be put in many different places to seat two people.
