Untitled - Horse and Rider by Pearl Amsel

Pearl Amsel Biography

Czech-born American sculptor Pearl Amsel creates monuments in bronze embodying both ancient myth and recent experience. Her work is sometimes dedicated to commemorating the memory of the victims of Auschwitz, where Pearl Amsel was sent during the war.

Although her sculpture is mostly abstract in form, it effectively conveys the heaviness of the material and the extraordinary strength of beings that employ resistance in order to remain free.

In 2001 Pearl Amsel installed a sculpture at The Jewish Museum in Prague. The work entitled "Golem" is a main figure of Prague's Jewish legends and has remained a source of fascination and inspiration to this day. The sculpture was created during the period of 1985-87 and is 96 inches tall.
