Half-truths, 2007-09-11
by swan (ny, ny United States)
Unfortunately this book is filled with outrageous miss-truths by an artist whose insistence on shameless self-aggrandizement and glory has no limits.
Poorly written and quite embarrassing.
Terrific Part II of Saint Phalle's Autobiography, 2007-08-14
by Masha (Miami, Florida)
This book follows "Traces", and was published posthumously. It's a wonderful, honest account of her family years, when she's "respectably" married and raising two children, while also working on her fledgling career as an artist. There's a great "he said/she said" counterpoint throughout, honest and friendly, between Niki and Harry. I wish her daughter and son had contributed more of their viewpoints. Anyone who loves Niki de Saint Phalle's work will enjoy this book thoroughly.
In-depth and from the heart, 2006-11-16
by J. Shenefield (California)
Many people wrote about artist Niki de Saint Phalle but none can do it as well as she herself. Go with Niki on this in-depth and from-the-heart adventure that narrates how she dealt with being a young mother, a wife, a free spirit in the 60's, and how she became an artist. Niki continues her easy-flow writing style that she portrayed in the first part of her autobiography "Traces", while prominent writer and then-husband Harry Mathews balances the subjective narrative with his remarks. If you're a fan, you'll love it. If you're not a fan, you might become one!
