Artist's Statement
My work covers eclectic subject matter, often inspired by daydreams and my imagination, appropriating found imagery from magazines and books and my own photographs. My practice is instinctive and intuitive.
When making work, I am concerned with using abstract forms and line making, and the consistency and sensual nature of the materials used, to create a feeling of gentle unease, awkwardness and slight discomfort; at times displaying an obtuse humour.
My practice encompasses both sensitive and contemplative drawings on paper, sometimes highly detailed, sometimes sketchy and vague; and expressive, energetic paintings on canvas. In some pieces there is a dark, surreal humour, and elements of pop, and horror. Often there is a sense of paranoia and other worldliness, from the influences of nightmares and my own nervousness about the world.
