Bill Evans was born in Utah in 1940 and began studying ballet with Willam Christensen at age 15. In 1975 he founded The Bill Evans Dance Company in Seattle. The Legacy is a performance of one of Bill Evans' best known works. Telling the story of the life of a Mormon pioneer and his polygamous marriage, it is a unique aspect of western US cultural history. The performance, rehearsal segments and in-depth analysis of The Legacy explain how formal structure is manipulated by the choreographer to reveal character as well as narrative.
