Manuel Hernández Mompó Biography

Valencia (Spain), 1927 - Madrid (Spain), 1992

Spanish Master painter and sculptor Manuel Hernandez Mompo studied at the Fine Arts School in his native city of Valencia. As a young man, he lived in Paris, Rome, and The Netherlands, the last bringing him in contact with Mondrian who proved to be a great influence on his works.

Mompo initially was a figurative painter, creating scenes of everyday life. His works were painted rapidly and intuitively, and consistently reflected his playful, colorful style. Eventually he moved more into the abstract style, finally working pure abstraction at the end of his life.
