Nadeem Chughtai Biography

Epsom (England), 1973

Emerging British painter Nadeem Chunghtai works drawn on a variety of influences. With a background in film animation, his paintings have a cartoon-like feel, yet with a depth and solitude reminiscent of Edward Hopper.

Born to an English mother and a Pakistani father, Chunghtai began drawing at a very young age. After years studying painting and drawing, he turned his attention to film, working on such movies as “The Avengers” and “102 Dalmatians”. He returned to painting in 2003 and in July 2005 he won the prestigious New Artists competition at the NEC in Birmingham.

In the artist’s own words:
“I am a keen observer of everyday life so my ideas are created from images I see all around. I also dig deep into thoughts, feelings and emotions that I may be experiencing at the time. I feel that people are very similar in many ways, so expressing my feelings can often strike a chord with those who relate to the situations that I put my characters in.”
