Raoul Dufy Biography

Le Havre, France, 1877 – Paris, 1953

FRENCH master painter, printmaker and designer, Raol Dufy is best known for his sombre paintings, large murals and design work.

Trained at the École des Beux-Arts, he worked in styles, such as IMPRESSIONISM and FAUVISM. During his long career, he also created designs for his friend, Paul PORIET, the fashion designer and BIANCHINI-FÉRIER, a famous silk manufacturer.

He was also commissioned for various murals in Paris and was awarded the Painting Prize at the Venice Biennale (1952).
