Serena Aarts lives in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. She was born in Rome into a family living in the intense atmosphere of the arts. As a child she lived in the midst of colors and palettes. Seeing the work of her maternal grandmother, Elja Martynowa, the Russian painter originally from St. Petersburg, transmitted a love and passion for pictorial composition, the world of color and the harmony of its forms.
Serena has a strong artistic vein that gives her a natural capacity for observation and interpretation of the world around her, particularly as regards the approach to the reality of the multifaceted world of color that draws its inspiration not only from nature, but from the entire universe.
The pseudonym Serena embraces a number of concepts - her personal research, the contemplation of natural phenomena, which have produced the need to describe, to tell and to create through symbols, through the use of the Fauvist style and through the animal use of color. Her style of painting is reminiscent of contemporary expressionism, showing images that stand out and excite the imagination.
Her works are filled with a relaxing feel which is spontaneously reciprocated in the observer. It is a reminder of the primordial age, in which the colors and the shapes were illuminated and fabulous. The figures in the world then were not as we read in the newspapers today, but retained a natural magic and inspired transcendence.
Let the magic stories, the images of her creatures, the vibrant colors that influenced her, demonstrate how many different ways in which we can participate in the wonders of life.
After all, what is the secret charm of art? Is it in transcending from a painful present to a world where lights, colors and rainbow dreams surround you, seeping into your soul?
