Editorial Reviews

This book opens a three-year tour at the Puffin Room in Manhattan in April 1996. The exhibition and tour are made possible by grants to the Abraham Lincoln Brigade Archives from the Puffin Foundation, the Charles Lawrence Keith and Clara Miller Foundation, the Program for Cultural Cooperation Between Spain's Ministry of Culture and United States Universities, the Blue Mountain Center, and the Needmor Fund. The Americans who brought these posters home have had a special status in the culture of the Left for sixty years. They remain living emblems of what it means to place the public good above your own welfare, to risk everything in pursuit of a better world.

Shouts from the wall: Posters and photographs brought home, 2000-04-04
I am very interested in this suject and have read many books on the sapnish Civil war, especially on the International Brigaders who came and fought for the republic agaist Franco's rebels.I have also done extensive reseasrch on the posters and propoganda used on both sides to make this intranational conflict an international conflict. I recommmend this book "Palette and the Flame" (by John Tisa)for those who are interested in the posters used by the republicans in this war. I highy recommmend this book "Shouts from the Wall" because it is very comprehensive and informative. The photographs are amasing and moving. Viewing this book makes you aware of the time and the situation of these brave soldiers who fought to end fascism.
