Shusaku Arakawa Biography

Japan-born, U.S. based artist, designer, and filmmaker.

Shusaku Arakawa originally studied medicine and mathematics at the University of Tokyo and later, art at the University Musashino in Tokyo. His first solo- exhibition was held at the National Museum of Modern Art in 1958 and has since contributed to the independent exhibits of Yomiuri.

He has been associated with the Neo-Dadaism movement in Tokyo and is a well- known name, in Japan, due to his scandalous performances.
