Tsang Kin-Wah Biography

Guangdong (China), 1976

Chinese artist Tsang Kin-Wah is quickly emerging as one of the great young talents from Asia. His meticulously rendered pieces are a fascinating combination of design and calligraphy. At first glace, the works appear to be mere graphic drawings, yet on closer inspection, the lines of the piece are actually carefully drawn words and phrases, giving the prints an entirely new dimension. The artist was featured in the annual edition of Asian Art Magazine and won Asia´s top art prize, The Sovereign Art Prize (2005).

In the artists own words:
"For me, art is not emancipated from the world but rather reflect or link with it. By posing different kind of questions and thinking about what we are familiar with, what happens around us and the legitimacy of pre-existing things, ideas, believes, etc., showing altered compositions which is different from the existing, and combining and juxtaposing the classic, elegant form with vulgar, secular content, viewer would be lead to rethink about the legitimacy, authority and authenticity of the existing views and ideas from a different angle."
