Retro: ¨Blast from the Past¨

¨Retro¨ (abbreviated from rétrograde was first used in early 1970s France to signify nostalgia for past styles, especially for the glamour of the 1920s and 1930s. Today the term retro has entered the common lexicon referring to the marketing of dress, furniture, appliances, architecture, car styling and so on associated with older styles. The re-design of the Volkswagen Beetle by J. Meys in 1998 is a pointed example of retro.
