Batik

Batik

Batik is a cloth-dying technique. The artist coats the cloth with a dye resistant, removable substance, usually wax, in the areas that are not to be reached by the dye. The cloth is then dyed. The artist can repeat this process thus building up an image in layers. The dye resistant substance is eventually removed and the image is revealed. In this way many different layers of color can be built up.
