An established Mexican artist, David Alfaro Siquerios worked in an expressionist style. His pieces are full of sweeping gestural marks that create movement and tension.
His intensely political life ran parallel to his artistic one. He worked in large part as a muralist, using the medium as a way to explore new tendencies both in painting and in politics.
He wrote about and advocated the creation of a new heroic and public art based in the pre-Colombian tradition.
