This New York Gallery, was founded by the Italian-born American art dealer, Leo Castelli, and is renowned for promoting European artists in the U.S. and Pop art, during the mid-20th century.

After working in banking and insurance, Leo Castelli first opened a gallery in Paris, specializing in SURREALIAM, in 1939. He subsequently emigrated to New York and began promoting European art. In 1958, he showed artworks by JASPOER JOHNS and ROBERT RAUCHENBERG.

This American gallerist is also credited with the establishment of major 20th century artists, like ROY LICHTENSTEIN, CLAES OLDENBURG, FRANK STELLA, CY TWOMBLY and ANDY WARHOL.
