Robert Christie Biography

Canadian (b. 1960)

Robert Christie is a master of arresting the fleeting moments of urban decay. For over twenty years he has documented the slow slide of our industrial past, uncovering the sublime in photographs of broken windows, crumbing buildings and rusting machinery. Christie's images are characterized by a rich, at times almost surreal colouring. Even though it may appear digitally enhanced, this distinctive colouring is achieved through the artist's unique method of 'cross-processing' the film. This technique abstracts the subject from the scene one step further, revealing moments of beauty in the brief spell between abandonment and the wrecking ball.

Robert Christie¹s photographs are held in private collections in Canada, USA and Europe.
