Georges Braque Biography

Argentenuil, 1882- Paris, 1963

French painter and printmaker, recognized, along with Pablo Picasso, as the father of Cubism.

Originally, associated with Fauvism, his discovery of Cezanne and meeting with Picasso, changed his direction. Amongst his most famous works are: The Musician( Kunstmuseum, Basle ) and the Studio series. He is also known for the decorative work that he did on the ceilings of the Etruscan Gallery in the Louvre, Paris. He was also the first living artist to be exhibited at the Louvre, in 1961.
