Raoul Dufy Artwork Details

Detailed Description

Note: This is one of a series of four large Fauvist woodcuts which Dufy exhibited at the Salon d’Autumne in 1910. It is clearly related to the lovely woodcut illustrations for Apollinaire’s “Le Bestiaire which were published in the following year. We understand that there was a signed edition on Chine volant paper from an edition of 100. This may be a later edition made by the artist or another edition on a different paper made at the same time. We bought two works together from the provenance of a Swiss museum. Obviously they emanate from the same source - probably both from the Atelier of the artist. The other woodcut of a different design we acquired from the same source was on watermarked paper and we consider this paper to be the same. Condition: In good condition. The bottom margin has some folding and discolouration not affecting the image. Edition: An unnumbered impression Provenance: Swiss Museum collection
