Theo Tobiasse Biography

Israel, 1927 -

An established French and Israeli artist, Theo Tobiasse works in a figurative style.

He began drawing while confined to his apartment during the German occupation of Paris, and later found employment with various advertising companies in Paris and Nice. In 1960 his work was noticed at the Palais de la Mediterranee exhibition of young artists, giving him a wider audience, and allowing him to work as an artist full time.

His subjects evolved towards reminiscences of his childhood mixed with Biblical or erotic fantasies. His more recent work examines themes of exile, and often includes women, children, and crowds of people.
