Tobias Wong Biography

Tobias Wong was born in Vancouver, Canada over thirty years ago. He studied art at Cooper Union in New York City where he graduated with a degree in sculpture. He coined the term ?paraconceptual? which means using design as a medium to expose the similarities between art and design. In his own words, his work

?continually questions the notion of authorship, the role of the artist and the value of art. [He remains] uncomfortable with uniqueness and preciousness as well as ownership?.

He frequently uses ideas from other designers products and then tweaks them, such as with Philip Starck's bubble club chair which he wired for light. He has been in exhibits from Colette in Paris to Comme des Garcons in Tokyo, Paul Smith in London to MoMA in Berlin and NYC. He has created everything from chairs to clocks, door stops, shelving and storage units, and lamps.
