Allen Jones
(Southampton, 1937-)

British painter, printmaker and sculptor, and a prominent figure in the Pop art in Britain.

Trained at the Hornsey College of Art in England, he first made a name for himself at the Young Contemporaries exhibition in 1961. Allen Jones is best known for his unique sculptures where he combines or converts parts of female bodies into functional furniture. His sculptures have often been severely criticized as being sexist. He is also known for his work in designing the set and costumes for Oh ! Calcutta.
