Donald Judd
(Missouri, 1928 - New York, 1994)
Judd, Donald (1928 - 1994) American painter, designer and sculptor, widely recognized as one of the principal proponents of Minimal art.
Trained at the Art Students League and Columbia University, initially worked as an art critic for the Arts Magazine. During his career as an artist, he initially started with paintings, but gradually began making sculptures.
His most characteristic and famous works are arrangements consisting of identical, rectangular, box shapes, planked in a ladder-like way, from the walls. He titled his sculptural work as ‘ Specific Objects ‘. Most of his earlier sculptures were made with wood, although he began using different metals, for mostly his outdoor works.
During the latter part of his career, he also began designing furniture, influenced by his style in art.
