Mexican painter, most well known for her autobiographical paintings with surrealist imagery.
Twice married to Diego Rivera, probably Mexico’s celebrated artist, Kalho´s works often blend surrealism with Mexican folk art. She was her own favorite model, and her entire life can be practically traced with her self-portraits, works such as Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird (University of Texas, Austin).
Recognized as a feminist heroine, she is the subject matter on a upcoming movie starring the young Mexican-American actress, SALMA HAYEK.
