Kirchner, Ernst Ludwig

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner
(Aschaffenburg, 1880 – Wildboden, 1938)

German painter, printmaker and sculptor, considered as a leading figure in the Dresden-based Brucke group and also as an Expressionist artist.

He was influenced by Post-Impressionism and Primitive art, in particular by artists like Gauguin and van Gogh. Some of his most well-known works include his Expressionist paintings depicting the street life of Berlin, such as the Street, Berlin (MOMA, New York) and sculptures like Dancing Woman (Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam). He also produced a vast selection of prints using woodcut, etching and lithography techniques.
