Lempicka, Tamara de

Tamara de Lempicka
Varsovia, 1898- Paris, 1980

Polish-born painter, active in New York and Paris, primarily.

While Tamara initially gained her reputation as a portrait painter, she is better known for her Art Deco style in paintings. Her primary subjects included still-lifes of flowers and erotic nudes.

Throughout her career, Tamara received as much celebrity acclaim for her social life, beauty and romances, as her art, itself. Her 1992 exhibition at the Palais Luxembourg, Paris, revived the public interest in this aging icon.
