Alfredo Zalce Biography

Patzcuaro, Mexico, 1908 - 2003

An established Mexican artist, Alfredo Zalce worked in a variety of mediums.

He studied art at the Escuela Central de Artes Plasticas, in Mexico, and later in the studio of the prestigious print artist Emilio Amero. There he met young men who would become great artists, like Carlos Orozco Romero, Carlos Merida, y Francisco Dosamantes.

Zalce was a political activist for a number of progressive groups, including the League of Revolutionary Writers and Artists. In 1937 he co- founded the Taller de Grafica Popular, with other important artists, including Leopoldo Mendez, Pablo O?Higgins, and Luis Arenal.
