This series "The Ghetto" was created after the artist’s visit to the Jewish Ghetto in Rome. David explains, "When I visited the area I was deeply impressed by its mood and atmosphere. Many of the windows and doorways had decorative ironwork grills. Using the shapes of the grills and the colours of the area I created a vocabulary of signs and symbols. The cross of the grills that I use repeatedly, seems to symbolise the hardship and violent history of the place."
