Marc Chagall
(Vitebsk, 1887 - Saint-Paul-de Vence, 1985)
Russian-born painter and designer, prolific for his works depicting themes from the Bible, Jewish heritage and Russian folklore.
Chagall played an important role in the rise of avant-garde concepts of the 1910s in Paris and then in Russia.
Influenced by Cubism, Chagall developed his own very distinctive style of painting relying on his story-telling ability. His works can now be found at most major Russian, European and American museums.
