Kelly, Ellsworth

Ellsworth Kelly
(Nueva York, 1923-)

American painter, printmaker and sculptor, widely regarded as a leading exponent of Hardedge style of abstract art.

Trained at the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, he gradually transitioned from figurative to abstract art in the fifties. He is also credit as being one of the early proponents of shaped canvas, which is a technique that he has also used for his sculptures. Widely exhibited, he has received several public commissions, amongst them, a mural located at the UNESCO building, Paris.
