Joan Miró
(Barcelona 1893 - Palma de Mallorca 1983)
Spanish painter, sculptor and printmaker, regarded as one of the greatest Surrealist artists.
Trained at an art school run by the artist Franciso Gali, Miró held his first solo exhibition at a Gallery of José Dalmau, the Barcelona dealer. Despite his close association with the Surrealist movement, Miró was also influenced by other styles like Dadaism, Cubism and Pritivism. Some of his most famous works are: Harlequins Carnival´(Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo), two large-scale ceramic projects, Wall of the Sun and Wall of the Moon (UNESCO Building, Paris) and a large mural (originally, at Harvard University and now at MOMA, New York).
His artworks can now be found in the collections of most major museums and at the Foundation Joan Miró, in Barcelona.
