Tanguy, Yves

Yves Tanguy
(Paris, 1900 – Woodbury, Connecticut, 1955)

French-born, American painter, regarded as one of the leading Surrealist artists of his time.

Self-trained, he joined the Surrealist group, after initially meeting André Breton, in 1925. He is most well known for pieces, which emphasize his detailed technique, with lunar and marine-like images, sprinkled with bones and strange rock-like formations. Tanguay was married to Kay Sage, the American Surrealist artist.
