Xavier Miserachs Biography

Xavier Miserachs was born in Barcelona in 1937. He died in 1998.

In 1952 he became a member of the Catalunya Photographic Group, where he met Oriol Maspons, with whome he formed a life-long friendship.

A selected list of Xavier Miserachs' exhibitions is as follows:

1957: Exhibition with Ricard Terre and Ramon Mesats at the Catalunya Photographic Group.

Exhibition: "Images Inventées" at the Brusels Palace of Fine Arts, directed by Otto Steinert.

1982: Exhibition with Leopoldo Pomés and Francesc Català-Roca, Galería René Metras, Barcelona.

1986: Colective exhibition - "Visión fotográfica de una época" (Caixa de Barcelona).

1987: Exhibition "Barcelona y Metrópolis", works completed with Colita, O. Maspons, and F. Català-Roca for the Barcelona corportation, Metropolitana.

1992: Exhibition: "1 segundo y 25 centésimas", Fundación La Caixa, Barcelona.

Exhibition "Home i Natura" at European Parliment, in Strausburg.

Xavier Miserachs completed innumerable ilustrations for books and magazines. He also published various books and reports and articles for: Actualidad Española, Triunfo magazine, Gaceta Ilustrada, La Vanguardia, El Periódico and others.

In 1970 he was director of photography for two arthouse films, directed respectively by Enric Vila-Matas and Emma Cohen.

Also in the same year he directed and produced the short silent film AMÉN.

Honors & Awards

1953: The Luis Navarro Trophy Honor Prize, in the AFAC National Salon of Modern Photography.

1998: "Gaziel" Prize for his book of memoirs "Fulls de Contactes" (Edicions 62).
