Charles and Ray Eames

Charles and Ray Eames were born in Missouri and California, USA respectively. Although they were talented photographers, film makers and architects they also were talented furniture designers.

They made compact shelf systems, folding sofas, stackable chairs and multi-purpose furniture.  Their designs were famous for their versatility and technological finesse.

Like many other designers of the 1940´s they experimented with tubular steel when they created there Dining Chair Metal, which was made of plywood but with tubular steel legs. They also created the Lounge chair and ottoman which fits perfectly in offices and private homes. Their furniture shows their interpretation of their belief in progress and of American cultural dominance.

Charles Eames work was so significant and well appreciated that the Museum of Modern Art devoted a special exhibition to him in 1946.
