Ingo Maurer

Ingo Maurer was born in 1932 in Reichenau, Lanstance, Germany. He studied graphic design in Munich and is known for his lamp designs.  He enjoys playing with the properties of light and is obviously more concerned with designing light rather than lamps.

His lights are cryptic, subtle, and anything but minimalist.  He makes subtle use of paper, wire mesh, and other inexpensive products. His Zettel´z hanging lamp has paper with writing on it suspended in mid air by thin metal rods. His Mozzkito table lamp is made from an outsize tea strainer, to which spidery metal rods have been attached making it look like a mosquito when turned on. Maurer designed lamps for both private houses and public places such as gigantic light bells for the Westfriedhof underground station in Munich.
