Poul Kjaerholm

Poul Kjaerholm was born in 1929 in Oster Vra, Denmark. Unlike most other designers he worked exclusively for E. Kold Christensen. Also unique to most designers he created almost exclusively for mass production.

He based his designs on experiments, was coherent down to the smallest detail, and had clear concepts and honest construction, which concealed nothing. He experimented with aluminum, wire, and other unusual materials. He frequently combined a steel frame with a covering of natural material such as in his PK 24 chaise longue that combined a chrome-plated steel frame and a woven cane seat.

He also created an elegant and striking table called the PK 61 coffee table. It has staggered legs which are easily visible through the rectangular glass table top.  With his chairs he was able to maintain the same striking look that characterized all of his designs.
