Vernacular (or Traditional) refers to everyday design that reflects a culture's ongoing response to its regional environment and resources. Native European traditions inspired Arts and Crafts design such as the Sussex chair by William Morris and the Mission style by Gustav Stickley. Vernacular hand-crafted techniques later combined with machine production in the Modernist movement.
