A leading Belgian museum, the permanent collections includes works from the 15th century to modern times.

The 20th century collection includes, artworks (Woman Ironing and The Education) by Rik Wouters, one of the principal artists in Brabant Fauvism. The museum also has a valuable collection Flemish Expressionists. This movement, which was born during the First World War under the influence of French Cubism, Italian Futurism and German Expressionism, played a significant part in Western European art up to 1945. Artists like Frits van den Berghe, Gust de Smet and Constant Permeke offer an insight into the Flemish way of lining during the period between the two wars.

Belgiums´s abstract artists like Jozef Peeters, Victor Servranckx and Jules Schmalzigaug are also included in the museum’s collection as avant-garde artists, as are great Surrealist artists like René Magritte and Paul Delvaux. Post-war artists like Jo Delahaut, Luc Peire and Guy Vandenbranden; the expressionists Antoine Mortier, Louis van Lint and Englebert van Anderlecht, Cobra movement artists like Karel Appel, Pierre Alechinsky, pop artists like Vic Gentils and Paul van Hoeydonck and Walter Leblanc and the Zero group of Op Art are also featured in this museum.
